The course covers basic safety, technical and practical knowledge necessary to be a competent full face mask diver and feel comfortable using your system. You will participate in an academic session to learn the features of full face masks, gain familiarity with the system in the pool, and finish by demonstrating skills in the open water to gain your full face mask certification specialty card.

Minimum Requirements:
If you’re a PADI (Junior) Open Water Diver who is at least 12 years old, you can enroll in the Drift Diver specialty course.

Along with full face mask diving techniques and procedures, you’ll:

  • Discuss different types of full face masks and their uses and functions.
  • Learn the advantages and challenges specific to using a full face mask while diving.
  • Discover features to take into consideration when thinking about purchasing your own mask.

Get credit! The first dive of this PADI Specialty Diver course may credit as an Adventure Dive toward your
Advanced Open Water Diver certification – ask your instructor about earning credit.

 What Gear Will You Need

Beyond using basic scuba equipment, you’ll want to have appropriate thermal protection for the open water location of your final dives.  The type of full face mask will depend on your instructor. Your PADI Instructor may suggest additional equipment depending on where your diving adventures take you.
